Hello! I'd like to introduce myself by sharing how I started my equestrian career. When I was 7 years old, I was fortunate to be taken under the tutliage of a very talented and progressive trainer named Peggy Nelson. She was tough and demanding, but also was so proud of what I was able to accomplish. In my first year with her guidance I won an adult equitation class, and from there kept going.
By the time I was in my late teens, I was assisting in training at several stables, attending regional and national level competitions, and winning many for my stables.
An additional fun fact, is that in order to earn money for college and my first pickup truck, I also drove semi-trucks!
After college and settling down, I went right back to riding, and training, most recently at our 400 acre property in north central Washington, continuing to develop myself along the way.
A year or so ago, we survived the wildfires in central Washington. However, my husband fell ill and we were forced to temporarily move to western Washington. We will begin offering lessons again at our new property in eastern Washington in 2024.
These days there is a plethera of equestrian knowledge to be found on the internet as well as locally; all of which has its benefits. I hope to instill confidence in my students so that they can go on in their riding careers and make their own decisions on continued training, style, disipline and techniques.
In my last years of training I especially want to give opportunity to girls who might otherwise not be able to afford it. It is after all an expensive sport. However, this is also why we require application and interview with you and your family. Among the things you'll learn here, some might be considered 'work'. I consider it all part of understanding the complexity of horsemanship. I do not ask anything of students that I was unable to to do at their age. I do not look at it as if you are 'working' in exchange for training. These days many stables offer riding training and nothing else. I see many young people with an incomplete knowledge of horse care.
So if you're ready to have fun, work hard, train hard, and have some great adventures, fill out the forms and get ready to begin!
Can't wait to meet you!
